Central Appalachia has long been known for its bountiful coal deposits. US Coal Corporation currently controls the mining rights to more than 80,000 acres of property located in eastern Kentucky. Studies of these areas provide evidence of approximately 80,000,000 tons of coal reserves/resources.
US Coal currently operates four surface mines, two contract underground mines, a Highwall Miner and two coal preparation facilities. A second Highwall Miner is scheduled to be deployed in July of 2010. Production is projected to approach 300,000 tons per month by the second quarter of 2011.
TRANSPORTATION:
US Coal owns and operates a CSX unit-train rail loading facility and an NS single car rail loading facility. Additionally, US Coal leases space at a barge loading facility on the Big Sandy River. With access to both rail and barge transportation, US Coal has a target customer base that includes most utilities located in the eastern U.S.
ACQUISITION TRACK RECORD:
Licking River Resources was acquired in January 2007 and JAD Coal Company was acquired in April 2008.
